I was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. I was the only member of my family born in the south. My whole family is from New York. I love my city and still get geeked out every time I see our skyline. It has been amazing to watch Charlotte grow in my lifetime. I’m notorious for riding in the car with my wife and nudging her when we drive by the skyline and say look at our city. I have worked in restaurants since I was 15. I now have 19 years of experience in the hospitality industry. I graduated from UNCC in 2006 with a BA in criminal justice. I was a server all through my college career and when I graduated school I graduated to bartending. I currently work for Jon Dressler at Dogwood Southern Table and bar. We are a locally owned restaurant group called Rare Roots. The Rare Roots core team consists of Jon and Kim Dressler, Tim Buchanan, Chef Scott Hollingsworth. My ability to grow to the next level would not be possible without the constant support I get from those guys and my wife. They keep me grounded and humble. The Dressler’s own 4 restaurants and have a new concept that opened Feb of 2017 called Porter’s House in south Charlotte. Jon Dressler hired me as a server assistant at Morton’s in 2002. He left Morton’s in 2003 to open his first restaurant in Huntersville and I followed. I have since opened all 4 of his concepts. We have been working together for 14 years now. My wife and I are avid home cooks and I love collecting cookbooks, kitchen knives, bar tools, liquor and pretty much anything industry related. I’m obsessed with flavors and trying new combinations and mash ups. I’m not fond of the term Mixologist and will always prefer to be called a bartender. I feel like a mixologists is a person that worked at the mall last year and started bartending yesterday. I pride myself in giving people an experience and hospitality that is rare in our city.
