Matt got his first first restaurant job in 1986 and began working in fine dining in 1990. He cooked his way through college and graduate school before teaching undergraduate philosophy in New York and Tennessee. He began working in wine retail in 2000 as the opening wine manager of Riverside Wine & Spirits in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2002 he became a sales representative for Worldwide Wines, a fine-wine wholesaler in Connecticut, and in 2004 he helped open Grassroots Wine Wholesalers in South Carolina where he worked as partner and sales manager for seven years. He is now the sales director for SevenFifty.com, the communications platform for the alcohol beverage industry.
Matt holds a PhD in philosophy from SUNY Binghamton. He lives in Charleston, SC with his wife, his daughter, and his dog.
